A Week In Lipstick – Autumn / Winter Edition

winterlipstick

I’m not sure if it’s the crisp weather, the pumpkin spice everything, oversize knits or baking every weekend but I just find this season so incredible cozy and lovely. The moment I start gravitating towards darker lips signals the change of seasons, so here are my top 7 lipsticks to wear in the Autumn / Winter period, one for each day of the week!

Monday

MAC Verve – Satin finish. This lipstick is a brown- plum and extremely wearable for those that aren’t that brave to wear a dark lip. If you want to rock a dark lip to work for example this is the perfect one to choose, I’ve been wearing this to the office and I love it. The formula is also amazing, it glides on really softly and doesn’t dry out your lips. It lasts until lunchtime when it needs a quick top-up.

Tuesday

OCC Lip Tar Black Dahlia -Matte finish. I have a love-hate relationship with this lipstick. Let’s start with the negatives. It is so difficult to apply and bleeds even with lip liner so it takes ages to clean up and perfect your lips. However. Once this is on it stays on, also the colour is this most gorgeous blackened berry red at full opacity or it can be worn as a sheer wash of colour too. If you want to feel extra vampy and have the time to apply it, this is the lipstick to go for.

Wednesday

Revlon Super Lustrous  Really Red – Matte finish. I remember first seeing this lipstick on a girl at uni and when I found out what the name was I went to Boots to buy it the very same day. This classic red lipstick has a slight orange undertone and looks fantastic on all skin tones. It is a matte finish but I don’t find it drying.

Thursday

MAC Film Noir – Satin finish. If you’re looking for a 90’s Janet Jackson dark brown lipstick then this is the one for you. I love throwing this on with an oversize denim shirt, big hair and hoops, throwback anyone?

Friday

MAC Diva – Matte finish. Diva is one of my all time favourite lipsticks, it is a burgundy red lipstick and looks just gorgeous on all skin tones especially if you’re warmer/darker. I find that it can last a really long time on the lips but because it’s a matte finish it is drying. If you’re looking for something darker then Sin by MAC is a really good option.

Saturday

Charlotte Tilbury Glastonberry- Matte finish. I gave into the hype about this lipstick and I’m not even sorry. Glastonberry is a dark berry lipstick with a cooler undertone. I love wearing this colour out and about on the weekend when I’m feeling a bit more glam. It wears comfortably on the lips but you’ll probably need a liner to pair with it.

Sunday

Charlotte Tilbury Bond Girl – Not everyday this season is a dark lippy day, so for those every day, out and about days, I whip this beauty out. I cannot stress how pretty this colour is, it’s a warm pink with brown neutral undertones that complements any eye look and make my lips look full and luscious, I find myself gravitating towards this whenever I want to look polished, yet simple.

High-End Beauty Haul feat. Nars, MAC, OCC, MUFE and Ben Nye

IMG_2694

Happy Sunday everyone I hope you’re well. I’ve been on a bit of a make-up binge recently. I’ve always been more of a skin-care gal myself but I realised that I needed to update my make-up collection a little, so I took to the shops for some much needed retail-therapy. Here are the things that I purchased:

1) MAC Studio Sculpt PF 15 Foundation – NC44 (£25.00)

I’m going to be doing a full review on this foundation soon but it is a great product which perfectly matches my skin tone. It is gel based, satin finish and long wearing foundation which gives medium to full coverage. I prefer to use this product for special occasions as it is one of the few foundations that I can actually feel on my skin.

2) MAC Prep + Prime Highlighters in Peach Lustre and Light Boost (£18.50 each)

The Peach Lustre is what I use to colour correct ashy-dark spots on my face before applying foundation, this works fabulously on my skin tone. I wrote about colour correcting here. I bought the Light Boost to use as a highlighter but I think it’s a bit too light for me. Any suggestions on what else to use it for?

3) NARS Pressed Powder – Mountain (£25.00)

This is a really pigmented pressed powder that gives a surprisingly good coverage even when used on its own. It also has a soft focus finish which leaves an air-brushed look to the skin. The only disappointing thing is the “powder puff” that comes with it, it’s a flimsy piece of sponge.

4) NARS Immaculate Complexion Concealer – Dark 2 Cacao (£19.00)

I bought this deep concealer especially for the purpose of contouring. It is the perfect shape for drawing precise lines and the colour has a cool tone which is great for NC 42-45 wearers. It is creamy and blends well for those perfect chiseled cheekbones!

5) Makeup Forever HD Foundation – N173 (£30.95)

I’ve been meaning to try this foundation for a while. The colour is quite a bit darker than my NC44 Studio Sculpt, but it has the same undertone so I could probably wear this in the summer. It is a medium- full coverage foundation with a satin-finish and is also oil-free. Watch out for a full review soon. MUFE swatch is on the top, compared to MAC Studio Sculpt NC44.

6) Makeup Forever Sculpting Blush – Satin Blood Orange 20 (£22.95)

This is such a pretty coral shade with a really fine shimmer. It has great staying power and doesn’t look patchy by the end of the day.

7) Ben Nye MediaPRO HD “Banana” Poudre Compact (£18.50)

This is a pressed powder form of the famous Ben Nye Banana Powder. It is a bit more luxurious than the loose powder and is great to carry in your bag for touch-ups. This powder really does have a highlighting effect when applied to the high points on the face and under the eyes, it also absorbs extra moisture really well.

8) OCC Cosmetics Lip Tar Matte – Hoochie (£11.95)

I am obsessed with this colour! This matte liquid lipstick is the perfect cool tone purple, definitely one for the brave. It takes a while to apply this product and you need to use a lip-liner and primer underneath to stop feathering/bleeding, but once it’s on it stays on and feels really nice and moisturising. What’s more is that the product is 100% Vegan and Cruelty Free.
