Liz Earle Superskin Moisturiser – Review

Hi ladies and gents! So as you might all know I’m a big Liz Earle fan, therefore I wanted to try something from the Superskin range. A 15ml jar of this moisturiser from John Lewis cost £14.95.

Superskin Containing high levels of GLA and rich in omega-3, it helps prevent moisture loss and improves skin elasticity, while pomegranate fruit extract and natural source vitamin E, both rich in antioxidants, help protect from environmental damage.Naturally active ingredients include precious cranberry, borage and rosehip seed oils. This is marketing at mature or very dry skin types.

The first thing I noticed upon opening the jar was the smell. Now I’m not one of those people who needs my skincare to smell amazing, in fact I prefer unscented products, but this just smells bad! Further to smelling bad it also lingers on the skin which isn’t great if you’re sleeping next to someone.

The texture of the moisturiser is nice, it is a white cream which isn’t thick, but is very hydrating. I did find it only a little richer than the original Skin Repair. Also because it is unscented, those with sensitive skin care can use it, I myself am not prone to comedogenic breakouts.

I used this small jar for 2 months as my night time moisturiser and whilst it did hydrate my skin I didn’t find it any more effective than the Skin Repair (normal/combination). I was a bit thrown back by the price as this is only £6 cheaper than the 50ml Skin Repair Moisturiser which means it isn’t great value for money. Overall this wasn’t a great stand-out product for me but maybe if you have sensitive skin it could work for you.

Have any of you tried anything from the Superskin line from Liz Earle? What were your thoughts? Comment below 🙂

Smells Like Summer

I wanted to update my summer fragrance but I didn’t want to commit to buying an expensive perfume, so I did a little shopping for some summery fragrancy stuff.

The first place I went to was the Body Shop and I purchased the Indian Night Jasmine Fragrance Mist (£7.50). This stuff smells seriously gorgeous, it’s got a really seductive oriental, floral jasmine smell without being too overpowering. I also bought the matching shower gel (£6.50) and body butter (£10). Once these products are layered together they smell divine! I also bought the Aloe & Soft Linen scented candle from the Body Shop (£10), this is such a fresh, light scent that lingers hours after it has been lit.

Next I went to Lush and bought the R&B Hair Moisturiser (£11.25). In the summer my hair completely dries out so I needed a product that will re-infuse my hair with some moisture. This hair moisturiser has lots of nice oils like coconut and olive oil to strengthen the hair, it is meant for thick, course, curly, very dry or Afro-Caribbean hair so I wouldn’t recommend for the fine haired ladies. I rub a tiny bit of the product on the end of my hair and it tames the frizzies whilst giving my hair a healthy sheen. Also worth mentioning is the amazing smell of this product, it has a strong citrus scent and makes me think of being on a tropical island 🙂

I then got the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser Orange Flower & Chamomile Limited Edition (£19.75). As far as I can tell this has the same formulation as the normal cleanse and polish, but the smell of the orange flower and chamomile is just incredible. I think I’m going to stock up on these as it is a limited edition.

Finally, I bought Kiehls Ultra Light Daily Moisturiser SPF 50 (£31). I’ve been using Cliniques  Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturiser SPF 20 but that feels way too heavy on my skin in this heat, plus it doesn’t have a high enough SPF. The Kiehls moisturiser has a light texture, which initially feels heavy on the skin, but once it’s absorbed the heaviness disappears. It’s the perfect make-up base if you just wear face powder or BB cream during the summer.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser – Review

I remember the first time I used this cleanser and my reaction was literally “Woah”. I had seen it on QVC and was interested to see why it had won so many beauty awards. At the time I was using drug store brand cleasers which always left my combination skin feeling dry, tight and didn’t remove my make up efficiently.

The cleanser is free from mineral oil, it has a rich and creamy texture which is almost balmy. The smell has a fresh hint of eucalyptus. Massage this onto dry skin for 1 minute and then polish off the cream using the pure muslin cloth rung in warm water, to gently exfoliate dead skin cells and help reveal make-up free skin.

Removal of various make-up including waterproof mascara and eye liner

I love using this product, it has really made cleansing fun and a treat for my skin. It is no longer left feeling dry or tight but instead moisturised and clean. The only reason that a bit of my MAC waterproof eye liner remained in the picture above is because I applied it just 15 minutes before removal, usually after a full day eye liner comes right off.

The muslin cloth helps to reveal brighter more radiant skin due to the gentle exfoliating action. The cloths have to be machine washed every two days, and eventually become softer when they have to be replaced. You can buy the cloths separately from Liz Earle but they are more economical if you buy them with the cleanser or you can buy them online from other sellers.

The product comes in a 200ml tube (£24.75), 100ml pump (£13.25) and 50ml pump (£8.50). A 100ml pump will last one month If you use 1 pump every morning and night. However I find that I only need 1/2 a pump per wash and 1 if I’m wearing a full face of heavy make-up.

This is one of those product I can’t live without and will continue to use as long as I can afford it. I tried to revert back to cheaper cleansers but I just kept coming back to this one because of the positive effects it has had on my skin.
