Laneige White Plus Renew Original Essence – Review

Now I’m just going to put a disclaimer in here because I know what you’re going to say. “WHITE ESSENCE?” *insert shocked and disapproving look*. Let me explain. In Korea (where the product is from), the term “Whitening” is different to what you and I perceive. “Whitening” in Korea refers to the removal of sun damage, hyper-pigmentation, hormonal pigmentation and acne damage. In the West we would probably refer to this kind of product as a “Brightening” product. Harmful and toxic chemical skin lighteners like Hydroquinone are banned in Korea and are not used in this product or amongst any reputable skincare lines. So please do not be alarmed, I LOVE my skin tone and would never want to change the colour of my skin.

Now moving onto the product itself. This is the third bottle that I have purchased and I keep coming back to this again and again. I have suffered from hyper-pigmentation for much of my adult life. I started to get an uneven skin tone probably after I hit puberty and after years of sun exposure without sunblock it resulted in a patchy appearance of my skin, especially around my mouth. I stumbled across this essence because it is one of the best selling essences in Korea, I just had to try it.

I bought this from YesStyle for £32.00 for a 40ml bottle. http://www.yesstyle.co.uk/en/laneige-white-plus-renew-original-essence-40ml-1-3oz/info.html/pid.1032410338

The ingredient that make this an effective essence is yeast extract which improves the radiance and clarity of the skin. The formula is also free from artificial colourant, mineral oil and animal derived ingredients. It has rich green tea polysaccharides to moisturise the skin.

The product comes in a white box with an instruction booklet inside. The bottle is plastic and opaque with a dropper on the top.

The texture of this essence is sort of in between a toner and a serum. It is a white milky essence that spreads and absorbs very quickly into the skin, I use around 1/2 to a full pump. It has a light floral fragrance. I use this after my toner and before my serum at night, and sometimes in the morning before moisturising. Because of it’s light texture this is ideal for anyone with oily skin.

So why do I keep coming back to it?

After the first night of using this essence I woke up to plump skin with an immediate improvement in skin tone. I mean genuinely my pores looked smoother (if that makes sense?). After around a month of using the product I noticed that my breakouts had completely stopped which meant I wasn’t getting any new scarring. After 3 months and having finished the bottle I noticed my skin was more radiant, my hyperpigmentation had reduced (although not completely gone) and my skin had a smooth fresh appearance.

A few weeks after finishing the first bottle I started to get the same breakouts that I got before and my skin didn’t look as smooth in texture. So I decided to repurchase the bottle and saw great results yet again! I would just like to reiterate that I saw NO lightening in my skin, I only saw a reduction in scarring and pigmentation marks which mean I now need to wear less foundation to even out my skin tone.

It’s been around 7 months since I first started using this essence and I kind of see it as a curse and blessing. It’s a blessing because my skin has never looked more radiant and healthier in my life and I am wearing less makeup as a result of it. It is a curse because now that I know how good my skin can look, I am going to have to keep repurchasing it!

Lush Fresh Face Mash (The Sacred Truth) – Review

So I popped into Lush last weekend to exchange my 5 empties to receive a free face mask. I decided to try one that I haven’t tried before called The Sacred Truth. The Sacred Truth is intended to brighten dull, dry, tired looking skin.

Taken from the Lush website:

Revive your complexion with ginseng and ginkgo leaf to boost blood circulation, whilst honey, yoghurt and free range eggs leave skin soft and moisturised. Wheatgrass is full of nutrients to feed your skin, whilst the enzymes in fresh papaya will strip away dead skin, helping to give you a gorgeous glow. Smoothe a generous layer of this mask onto your face and leave for 10 to 15 minutes and let the ingredients get to work before washing off gently with warm water.

The mask has a really earthy plant like smell, I think the ginseng is quite pungent, but it’s nice nevertheless. Straight out of the fridge this mask feels extremely cooling after a long hot shower. It has a really smooth texture and is light green in colour. After 15 minutes the mask dries completely and is ready to wash off with warm water.

Immediately after washing this mask off I noticed that my skin was much brighter and hydrated. Also the next morning my skin was really plump! The papaya and ginseng gets rid of the skin cells in a gentle way to reveal softer, brighter skin and the shea butter and essential oils gives the skin some much needed hydration. There is also green tea powder in the mask which is a great anti-oxidant. Because this mask is so nourishing you could even use it twice a week as it has great anti-ageing properties.

I’m loving this mask so far and I am going to repurchase soon. It is hydrating and brightening so I would recommend to anyone with dry, dull or mature skin, however I would not recommend to anyone with acne-prone skin as the oils could trigger a break-out.
