Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer (SX11) – Review

kevyn

This product is the most expensive make-up item I have ever purchased, at £38 a pot it is something that I bought in the hopes that it would be a miracle product.

Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer can be used in a number of ways, as a foundation, concealer, highlighter or tinted moisturiser when mixed with your day cream. I bought this product from Space NK solely for the purpose of concealing my under eye circles. The colour SX11 is a nice match for my NC44 skin. It is a bit lighter than my skin so it gives the highlighted effect and it has a very yellow undertone. For £38 you get a lot of product (18g) compared to other concealers. For example my Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer is just 1.4g and costs £19. Therefore this jar will outlive its 18 month shelf life.

Packaging: Packaging is fit for purpose. The small jar allows easy application of the product but I wish there was a mirror in the lid.

Formula: When reading the ingredients list of this product I wasn’t impressed. Not only does it contain Mineral Oil, it also contains Fragrance! Fragrance is not supposed to be used on the sensitive eye area as it is pro-ageing and pro-sensitising. It also contains Talc which I try avoid in my beauty products.

Texture: The best way to use this product is with a buffing concealer brush. The texture of this product is extremely thick and paste-like like therefore it needs the heat from your face to really blend into the skin. It sets very quickly and catches onto any dry patches so it is important to make sure the skin is very hydrated.

Appearance: Now I will say this much, this product is so incredibly pigmented it will cover everything and your sins. It literally camouflages your skin so you can’t see your real skin, I would go as far as saying this could probably cover up a tattoo. You need to use the tiniest amount of it as well. It is the one stop shop for undereye concealing, you do not need to layer any other products with it but it cannot be used on your eyelids. In the picture below I used a tiny bit of the product to blocked out my veins and freckles on the back of my hand.

Longevity: The longevity of this product is most disappointing. Even after setting the product it creased on me and set into fine lines. Furthermore it faded a lot over the course of the day. Not what I would expect from such a high-end product. There was no oxidising of the colour on me.

Overall this has been a really disappointing product for me, whilst it looks wonderful when it is first applied, I do not enjoy the creasing, fading and mostly the ingredients. My undereye area is on the dryer side and this product catches onto the skin making it look worse than it is, also it creases heavily into my expression lines. I will probably use it for any skin blemishes or if I need to clean up around my eyebrows or lips. Personally if you’re skin is like mine you’re much better off avoiding this product and using a liquid concealer and corrector together.

Etude House Play 101 Pencil #23 – Review

Play 101 Pencils from Etude House are  gel-type pencils that comes with vivid colours and various textures for easy and fun makeup play. They can be used as lip colours, eye shadows, concealers and eyebrow pencils.

I bought a deep red colour #23 from Yesstyle for £7.90.

The pencil packaging is matt black and comes in a dark red box.

Play 101 #23 comes with a twist up bottom and has a fine tip for precision application.

I’m sure you can see from the picture above the pencil is so soft, creamy and feels really moisturising on the lips. It gives fantastic coverage and makes your lips looks plump and hydrated. You get about 4-6 hours wear on this lip pencil and it fades to a nice matte tint, without any colour bleed. The finish is shiny but you can blot it to give a matte appearance.

This colour is sort of similar to MAC Diva but a little less dark and has a high shine finish. It is extremely wearable even during the day because the colour isn’t bright, but more muted.

Play 101 #23 is perfect for you if you (like me) find that most lip products dry your lips, or if you find applying red lipstick difficult (the pencil takes all the work out of drawing perfect lines). My only issue with this product is that I can foresee it finishing quite quickly as there isn’t a whole lot of product in the pen, but overall I am delighted with it and will be looking into different colours in the Play 101 range.

Elf Shimmering Facial Whip (Golden Peach) Review

I’ve been on the hunt for a cream highlight with a gold undertone which doesn’t look tacky on the skin.

Shimmering facial whip from Elf Cosmetics is a multipurpose, on-the-go whipped colourant with vitamin B, C and E packed to instantly brighten and soothe skin with no greasy after-feel. It can be used on the eyes as a cream eyeshadow, the lips or as a highlight.

I purchased the Golden Peach colour for just £1.99 !!! Outrageous.

The cream is quite thick and has a light fragrance. You literally need to use the smallest amount on your cheekbones and down the centre of your nose to highlight the area. Also it blends out really well on top of powder and cream foundation. Golden peach has a yellow-gold undertone which will suit any medium olive tan to deep dark brown complexion. There is also a clear colour (spotlight), light pink (lilac petal) and dark pink (pink lemonade) version if you are fair skinned or have pink undertones in your skin. The shimmer particles in this product are very fine so it has a very expensive finish. It’s extremely difficult to capture the highlight with my camera but trust me when I say this is a beautiful highlighter so stock up now!
