L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara – Review

Having recently run out of mascara, I picked up the L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara from Boots which has a bit of a cult following. I’ve been testing the mascara for a few weeks now I decided it was time to sit down and review for you guys.

The price point for this mascara is a little higher than I’d usually spend for a drugstore mascara at £10.99, so already my expectations were high.

When I took the plastic wand out of the packaging I noticed that it’s extremely long, thin and weak. I did like the fact that I didn’t need to wipe of excess product with this mascara but it was quite difficult to apply onto the lashes. I like that the spikes of this brush don’t poke me in the eye which I do get with a number of other products when I’m in a rush and also I don’t get any mascara on my top lid when applying it.

Upon application the formula makes my lashes look long but what’s most impressive is the amount of curl I get with this formula and the curl doesn’t drop all day, even after a sweaty work out! Unfortunately what I didn’t like is that the formula is not very buildable and I got some clumping with the second coat. Also  I prefer a feathery, fanned out look to my lashes and this product gives them a very spiky look. Since using this product I haven’t gotten any irritation, flaking or smudging.

I do find that it is quite difficult to remove this mascara due to the formula, I prefer when mascaras sort of peel off as opposed to them melting and smudging everywhere (if that makes sense?!)

L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara, from top of bottom- No mascara, 1 coat, 2 coats

Lots of curl and hold

No smudging/ flaking

Not buildable

Gives spiky appearance to lashes

Weak wand

Difficult to apply and take off

Overall I wouldn’t say this is a terrible mascara by any means but there isn’t anything about it that makes me want to repurchase it and I’m not a huge fan of the spiky lash look. It probably has the best curl and hold I’ve ever had from a mascara so if you have issues with your lashes dropping, maybe this is one for you.

Have you tried this mascara before? Let me know what your thoughts were! Also please recommend any new mascaras I should test.

March Favourites

Hello lovely people!

March has been the month of rediscoveries for me, I’ve been digging through my drawers and falling back in love with some golden oldies, so without further ado, here are my March favourites:

Paula’s Choice Resist Anti-Aging Ultra-Light Antioxidant Serum

Having recently run out of the nighttime serum I was using I decided to start using this product instead (I usually use it in the daytime). I have woken up with such awesome glowy, soft skin since using this serum at night and it’s a great formulation for oilier skin. I don’t think I’m going to be purchasing another serum for a while now as this has given me really great results, I’m actually sort of annoyed that I didn’t try it earlier. For a full review see here.

Chanel Coco Madamoiselle Body Wash & Lotion

This body wash and lotion combo has been sitting around in my room for a while now so I decided it was finally time to use it. I used to have the Coco Madamoiselle EDP which I loved but as it is such a common fragrance I decided I wouldn’t repurchase it. The body wash and lotion carry the same beautiful fragrance and give me a sense of luxury when I take my evening shower. Also the fragrance lasts all the way through till morning!

WonderRuci Cacao Brightening Mask

Asides from smelling like chocolate and being extremely fun to use, this face mask has really been helping clear up some blemishes I’ve recently got on my skin. I smooth a layer of this on my face, consider licking it off for 20 minutes, and when I wash it off I’m left with brighter, fresher looking skin.

ELF Baked Bronzer – Los Cabos

Every time I use this bronzer I literally can’t stop looking at my face. The ELF baked products have a great satin finish on the skin. It gives a glow to the cheeks and the colour is beautiful on my skin tone. It adds the right amount of warmth and depth without looking muddy. This is definitely one of my top 3 bronzers of all time.

Barry M Gel Nail Varnish (Acai Berry)

I reckon this is going to be a go-to Spring nail varnish shade for me. It is the perfect on trend shade of pink and looks really good on all skin tones. With this being a gel nail varnish it has an amazing shine and longevity to it too.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush (Luminous Flush)

Now that the days are becoming longer I’ve been opting for more pink shades of lipsticks and blush. This blush from Hourglass has a soft focus finish on the skin and does not fade throughout the day. It can be blended into a very sheer finish for a no-makeup look or heavily for a full face. For a full review click here.

Grenade Carb Killa – Cookies & Cream

For those of you that haven’t tried these bars yet I urge you to give them a taste. They are the most “chocolate bar” tasting protein bar, with a layer of cookies and cream covered in caramel with crunchy pieces and then a layer of milk chocolate. No gritty texture and with great macros. Also they are much more available in the UK (try Tesco, Holland & Barret, Argos).

That’s all for this month! What have you guys been loving this month, anything in particular I should try?

February Favourites

Hey guys! February is one of my favourite months with it being my birthday month so I’ve been rather busy recently, hence this super late post (sorry! better late than never right!)

So without further ado here are my monthly favourites.

MAC Verve

Verve is one of my everyday go-to’s for when I’m in a rush or feeling lazy. It gives my lips a “my lips but better” shade whilst making them look really plump, also the formula is just so creamy and hydrating on my lips. I think this may be one of the first lipsticks that I actually finish.

ELF Baked Blush Peachy Cheeky

I rediscovered this blush this month. On my skin tone this product is definitely not a blush but the most beautiful highlight, it kind of reminds me of Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Powder in Candlelight in the sense that it has a really subtle, non-shimmery finish. If you are around my skin tone or darker I would really recommend picking this up for an everyday highlight or on a fairer skintone this would look great as a peach blush.

Barry M Nail Polish in Dark Side of Shroom

*Sigh* this colour of nail varnish is just amazing. It’s a purple with a grey undertone making it very different to anything I’ve seen before. It’ll suit all skin tones and immediately makes you look fashion forward. Also with the daylight curing topcoat you can get a great manicure that lasts a good week.

Skagen Rose Gold Bracelet Watch

My lovely boyfriend bought this BEAUTIFUL watch for me and I am absolutely in love with it, it’s so pretty and looks great on smaller wrists. It immediately makes me look more put together when paired with a crisp shirt/ knit.

Dune Trish Boots (black leather)

I raved about the grey suede version of these boots a few months ago and I managed to get the black leather version before it went out of stock. These boots have a classic over the knee cut, fit really well around my slim calves and are very comfortable for everyday use.

American Apparel Dylan Trench (Cocoa Bean)

I love wearing trench coats in the Spring/ Summer and I have been loving this blush tone that I’ve been seeing everywhere. Having searched high and low for a blush trench I’d almost given up hope but when I  spotted this coat on one of my favourite style Vloggers Jenn Im from Clothesencouters I knew I had to buy it no matter what. The colour is absolutely stunning, sort of a dusty pink (it looks darker in real life than in the image on the website) and I cannot wait for it to warm up in London so I can wear it!

Mr Kipling Orange & Cranberry Oat Slice

I’m forever snacking and this month they were giving free samples of these oat slices at work. Being the greedy pig that I am I grabbed about four boxes. These are the perfect snack to have with a cuppa when the 4pm hunger pangs/ sweet tooth strikes. YUM

Soreen Chocolate Squidgy Cake Minis

Something else I’ve been loving are these new cake minis from Soreen. These mini cakes have the classic squidgy Soreen texture with a hint of chocolate. It’s not too sweet and a relatively healthy snack!

Tell me, what have you been loving recently? Comment below and let me know.

Anniversary Make-Up Look and Sketch Afternoon Tea (London)

Hello my lovelies, I hope you’re all doing well!

To celebrate our 5 year anniversary, my partner and I went to The Gallery in Sketch for afternoon tea. This is by far the best afternoon teas experience I’ve had in London. The selection of sandwiches, cakes, treats and scones all tasted amazing, everything was presented artistically and with so much attention to detail. Furthermore, with there being free top-ups of everything we ate our weights worth in food!

The restaurant itself doubles up as an art gallery adorned with works from artist David Shringley and every inch of this restaurant from the walls to the amazing egg shaped toilet cubicles oozes artistic appeal. With the low lighting and smooth jazz in the background I truly felt like I was on the set of Mad Men. To top it off the service was fantastic, so all in all it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in London.

On to my make-up for the day, I wore a grey floral dress I bought a while back from ASOS. I wanted to pick up on the berry accents in my make-up so went with matte pink eyeshadow and complemented it with a deep berry lips.

Here are the products I used:

  • MAC Strobe Cream on high points of face
  • MAC Prep+Prime Higlighter in Peach Lustre to colour correct
  • MAC Studio Sculpt (NC44) + Estee Lauder Double Wear (4N2 Spiced Sand) mixed for foundation
  • MAC Pro-Longwear Concealer (NW35)
  • Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer (Medium Dark Warm)
  • Ben Nye Poudre Compact Powder (Banana) for setting undereyes
  • Nars Pressed Powder (Mountain) all over face
  • MAC Fix + to set finished face

  • Shu Uemura eyelash curlers
  • MAC 24/7 Extend Eye Base for primer
  • MUA Elysium Palette (matte shades) for eyeshadow
  • Urban Decay 24/7  liquid eyeliner (Perversion)
  • L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara
  • Anastasia DipBrow Pomade (Ash Brown)
  • Sleek Brow Perfector (Dark Brown)

  • theBalm Bahama Mama to contour
  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush (Luminous Flush)
  • MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft & Gentle as highlight

  • Charlotte Tilbury (Glastonberry)

Until next time!

My Birthday #MOTD

Hello my beauties, how are you all doing?

So a few weeks ago, Sunday the 21st of February to be precise, marked the day that I turned 26. I’m still mentally processing that I can no longer say I’m in my “early-twenties” (boo) but that aside I had a lovely day and wanted to share my make-up of the day with all of you.

This year I decided I didn’t want to do anything big so my boyfriend took me out for a lovely dinner at Asia de Cuba in Covent Garden. This is such a pretty restaurant, I love the decor and it was the perfect setting for a romantic birthday dinner. Also the food being a fusion of my favourite cuisines, Asian and Latin American, was absolutely delicious! We didn’t even finish all four courses as there was SO.MUCH.FOOD and that’s coming from two massive eaters.

Now moving onto my face. I wore a rust coloured blouse which I found in Primark for just a tenner! I love wearing this shade as it really brings out my skin tone. To compliment it I wanted to do a dramatic gold smokey eye with glowing skin and a neutral lip. Here’s what I used…

  • Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow all over the face
  • MAC Prep + Prime (Peach Lustre) to colour correct
  • Estee Lauder Double Wear (4N2) and MAC Studio Sculpt (NC44) combined for foundation
  • MAC Pro-Longwear concealer (NW35) and Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer (Medium Dark Warm)
  • Ben Nye Poudre Compact (Banana) to set under eyes
  • Nars Pressed Powder (Mountain) to set all over face

  • Shu Umura Eyelash Curlers
  • MAC 24/7 Extend Eyebase as primer
  • MAC ‘Rule’ in crease. MAC ‘Embark’ on outer V. MAC ‘Carbon’ to deepen outer V
  • Barry M dazzle dust on eyelid (Bronze)
  • Girls Aloud Lashes By Eylure Kimberley
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner (Perversion)
  • L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes So Couture Mascara
  • Anastasia DipBrow pomade (Ash Brown)
  • Sleek Brow Perfector (Dark Brown)

  • Bahama Mama to contour
  • MAC Mineralise Skin Finish (Gold Deposit) all over cheeks
  • MAC ‘Peaches’ blush on apples of cheeks
  • Mary LouManizer as highlight

  • MAC Lip Erase to neutralise lips
  • MAC Mocha lipstick

To finish:

  • Mac Fix +

So what do you think of my look? Comment below and let me know and until next time…

Charlotte Tilbury The Gift of Red Carpet Skin – Review

2015 was truly the year for Charlotte Tilbury. Her beautiful and luxurious make-up range graced our high-street and the beauty community can’t get enough of it!

As a skincare junkie I can’t help but lust over her skincare range, that beautiful packaging would make the even the most frugal want to part with their money. However, I’m always skeptical when a make-up brand delves into skincare. Nonetheless, the boy done well at Christmas when he bought me the Charlotte Tilbury Gift of Red Carpet Skin Set for me to try out her most popular products.

This is going to be a LONG, detailed post by the way, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

My skin type is oily, non-acne prone, non-sensitive, blemish prone, hyperpigmented.

Taken from the Charlotte Tilbury website:

I often get asked what products I use on models and actresses to make them red-carpet-ready, so as it’s a season for sharing, I’ve put together this little box of travel-size versions of all my magic tricks to help you get that red-carpet-ready, flawless glow.

Claims: Packed with Bio-Nymph Peptide, Mediterranean Clay and Sweet Almond Oil, my GODDESS CLAY MASK will leave skin smoother, plumper and glowing.

To me a clay mask should be clarifying and cleansing on the skin. When applied, this fragranced mask didn’t feel tightening on the skin nor did I feel like it deep cleansed. When I washed it off my skin felt moisturised but I didn’t have that “glow” I get when I use an AHA exfoliant for example. For cleansing, my oily skin requires a deep cleansing clay mask like the Clinique Anti-Blemish Oil-Cleansing Mask.

Buy full sized version? No

Claims: My luxurious MULTI-MIRACLE GLOW cleansing balm transforms the skin, leaving it noticeably soft and supple.

I’m not quite sure what this product is. It says it’s a cleanser, mask and leave-on balm. When squeezed out of the tube it feels like a cooling gel-balm which leaves a sticky residue on the skin, definitely not something I’d like to leave on. As a mask and cleanser it works okay, moisturising, but nothing special.

 Buy full sized version? No

Claims: My famous, miracle-working MAGIC CREAM contains a secret fusion of anti-ageing ingredients to instantly turnaround dull, ageing, lacklustre skin.

This is Charlotte Tilbury’s most popular product that I hear everyone speaking about. At £70 for a 50ml pot it’s one of the most expensive moisturisers I’ve seen around so I had it in my mind that it better make my skin amazing.

The product claims to lift and transform tired skin with BioNymph Peptide Complex which is said to fight the ageing process by stimulating collagen and fighting free radicals and hyaluronic acid to floods skin with moisture. It also contains rosehip oil, aloe, Vitamins A, C, E . It also contains SPF 15 (chemical sunscreen).

On to the product, the jar packaging means that is not hygienic and because it has light and air exposure the anti-oxidants are not stable. It only has SPF 15 therefore isn’t really suitable if you’re going to be outside for a long period of time. Also it is chemical sunscreen which I try to avoid. This moisturiser contains irritating fragrance which won’t be suitable for sensitive skin.

The cream itself feels emollient, hydrating and has a silicone finish on the skin. It does have a nice iridescence to it when applied and it very hydrating without being greasy but honestly, I can get the same effect with a cheaper moisturiser and a highlighting base like MAC Strobe cream.

I’ve used this cream a few times and my opinion hasn’t really changed. If you’re in the mood for a very luxurious product to have on your vanity and your skin is on the dryer side then go for it, but is it a must, absolutely not.

Buy full sized version? No

Claims: And the genius award-winner, WONDERGLOW, uses breakthrough technology to steal UV light from its surroundings and radiate it as skin luminosity, transforming sleep-deprived skin in seconds.

Wonderglow is a anti-ageing primer which contains “Fluorescent Core Light Diffuser that cleverly steals UV light from its surroundings and re-emits it as skin luminosity to disguise and transform drab, sleep-deprived skin.” Like the magic cream it contains BioNymph Peptide Complex and Sodium Hyaluronate.

When I put a little bit of the product on the back of my hand I was pleasantly surprised by the colour. I had expected it to be a pink/cool toned primer but it is a very sheer beige/goldy tone. Perfect for warm complexions. When I applied this onto my skin it literally made my skin glow. Not that in your face, shimmery, glittery glow, but a very subtle, youthful glow that my skin has been lacking this winter. After a full days wear it didn’t exacerbate my oiliness. I can’t wait to try this on it’s own during the summer to see whether it affects my oiliness!

I can’t comment on the anti-ageing properties of the product but the air-proof and light-proof packaging means any anti-oxidants remain stable in the formulation. If you have ageing or dull skin this would be wonderful to use, I’m thinking of buying a tube for my mum as well. Important to note this product contains potentially irritating scents which makes it unsuitable for sensitive skin.

Buy full sized version? Yes

Claims: I poured all my makeup artist know-how into creating SUPERMODEL BODY, an incredible ‘slimmer shimmer’ that sculpts and highlights your contours for glossy perfection. It’s total body confidence in a bottle. The subtle pigment blended with contouring highlighters acts like an invisible film of shapewear lingerie for body confidence.

This is a nice product, a great one to put across your decollete and cleavage on a night out but I could honestly get the same effect with some cocoa butter from the Body Shop and a bit of liquid bronzer/ highlighter. I don’t particularly need any slimming so I can’t comment on that. Perhaps this product just isn’t for me.

Buy full sized version? No

Claims: Die-hard makeup-wearers will love TAKE IT ALL OFF – my oil-rich, two-toned cleanser that removes even the hardest to shift makeup in one swipe.

As a make-up cleanser this performs well. It’s a bi-phase micellar cleanser. It’s a great little bottle for my travel bag but I know the drug store does a lot of really good micellar waters at a fraction of the cost like Neutrogena or Bioderma. I’m extremely content with my current make-up remover Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil from Clinique and therefore don’t see any need to for this product.

Buy full sized version? No

I hate to write “negative” reviews, but as an honest blogger I’m a bit disappointed with my first experience of Charlotte Tilbury skincare range, because her make-up is some of my favourite. The Wonderglow is the only product I would consider purchasing. I feel like a lot of people will spend excessive amounts of money on these products when I personally feel there are cheaper alternatives available with much more potent ingredients and minus the fragrance irritants.

So tell me, have any of you tried any of these products before? Did you love them or did you have a similar experience to me?

birthday wishlist

Hey folks! February is one of my favourite months, because it is my birthday month weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I shall be turning 26 years old this month and I’ve compiled a birthday wishlist to show you guys what things I’m currently lusting and ALSO to make life easier for those struggling to find what to buy me *hint hint*. So in no particular order, here we go!

1) Dune London Trish Pull-on Boot in Black Leather £119

I spoke about the Dune Trish boots in my December favourites post and I’m obsessed with them. The only issue is that the wet UK weather means I can’t wear suede boots as much as I’d like to. Therefore I’ve been looking at the full leather black pair which should be able to withstand the rain a bit better. P.s. I’m a size 3.

2) GHD Arctic Gold Soft Curling Tong £120

Now that my hair is really long I can play around with styles a lot more. I love large loose curls and this curling tong looks amazing for that purpose. I already have GHD straighteners and the hairdryer which are amazing quality so I may as well add the tong to the collection.

3) Skagen Rose Gold Plated Mesh Bracelet Watch (Model 358SRRD) £115

I’ve been lusting over this watch for a while now, I think it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s rose gold (every bloggers favourite colour!) and got quite a small dial which should sit really nicely on my child size wrists. Also now that I’m approaching the latter side of my 20’s I think I need to be an adult and start wearing a watch everyday (boo!)

4) Kiko Mat Base Corrector Primer £8.90

This primer has been on my wishlist for months and month but I keep forgetting to buy it as I’m not a massive primer user. However, I’ve heard it’s amazing for oily skin so I’d really like to try put it to the test for you guys.

5) Sleek Blush in Sahara and Flushed £4.49 each

Sleek is an amazing drugstore brand, especially for people of colour. These two blushes in particular, Sahara which is a dark peach and Flushed which is a terracotta red would suit my complexion really well.

6) Everyday Super Food by Jamie Oliver £11.99

Over the past year my interest in cooking has increased immensely and I’ve always been a Jamie Oliver fan. All the food Jamie prepares looks right up my street and this book looks packed full of interesting, healthy recipes for me to try.

7) The Shredded Chef by Michael Matthews £8.99

When trying to eat a high protein diet I must admit, the weekly lunch preps of chicken, rice and broccoli does get a bit boring. This book has some different meals that I’d like to incorporate into my diet with the macro-nutrient info present. Handy!

8) Anthropologie Monogram Mug £6

I swear, every Instagrammer I follow has this mug from Anthropologie and I don’t blame ’em. It looks great for a cup of tea and it has your initial on it, cute!

9)  Anthropologie Crowned Leaf Measuring Cups £34

10) Anthropologie Crowned Leaf Measuring Spoons £18

I use measuring cups and spoons everyday when cooking/baking and these looks like a good, durable set whilst being adorable. Plus it’s from Anthropologie, what’s not to love!

So that’s all for now, what’s on your wishlists for this month? Comment below and let me know 🙂

I can’t believe the first month of 2016 is already (nearly) up. Keeping to my new years resolution here are my January favourites…

Real Techniques Setting Brush

I think this is my favourite brush of them all, of all time, ever. I use it every single day currently for  blending concealer but I’ve used it before for setting concealer and it works perfectly. I’m going to buy two more for setting and highlighting. If you don’t own this brush already, go get it, in fact, go get three!

MAC Prep + Primer 24-Hour Extend Eye Base

This eyeshadow primer has officially reached holy grail status for me. I’m a big Urban Decay Primer Potion fan and I’ve been neglecting that for this product. I did a small review in a previous post. In short it’s amazing at evening out the skin texture and really making product adhere to your eyelids.

MAC Blush in Peaches

Peaches is my go-to blush and every warm toned woman should own this. Now that it’s Winter I’ve been sleeping in more, meaning my make-up routine has become super quick. When I’m strapped for time I know that I can dust Peaches on my cheeks and look fresh. It’s the first blush I’ve hit pan on too!

Kerastase Cimente Thermique

Central heating always wreaks havoc with my hair. This product has been giving my hair life. I just plop some onto my hair before blow-drying at night and it adds shine, strength and protects it from damage.

L’Oreal Mythic Oil

I have the frizziest hair but although it looks quite thick it actually gets weighed down really easily with product. To get rid of those fly-aways I’ve been using this hair oil and it’s really great for adding shine and removing frizz whilst not weighing down the roots.

Body Shop Rainforest Shampoo Moisture

I was desperate to finish the shampoo that I was using (L’Oréal Hair Expertise EverPure Colour Care & Moisture Shampoo) which made my hair feel dryer so that I could revert back to this shampoo. It’s my absolute favourite SLS-free shampoo as it feels really moisturising and doesn’t irritate my scalp.

Furikake Rice Seasoning

For Christmas one of my colleagues gifted me a box of hot sauces and some of this interesting rice seasoning (they know me so well!) I’d never heard of rice seasoning before but OMG now that I’ve tasted this I’m not sure I can have plain rice again. This seasoning adds a salty, shrimpy, savoury, “umami” flavour to the rice. Perhaps not the most healthy, but a nice addition once in a while when I’m eating rice with a plain dish.

Quaker Oats So Simple Sweet Cinnamon Porridge

Now that is is truly Winter here in London I’ve been craving delicious hot porridge in the morning. I love oats, I love cinnamon flavoured everything and sometimes I sprinkle some pecan nuts on it too. YUMMY!!

Tell me, what have you been loving in January? Comment below and let me know.

L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes So Couture – Review

Volume Million Lashes So Couture from L’Oreal is such a well rated mascara that I knew I needed to try it. I picked this up from Boots for £9.99 and have been testing it for around a month now.

The brush on this wand is a plastic wand with soft, flexible bristles. I’m pretty aggressive with my mascara application and occasionally have the odd brush in eye situation, but I still haven’t had that with this product. The formula is jet black, creamy and buildable.

After a full days wear there is still a lot of curl and absolutely NO smudging which is really important for me. Furthermore it doesn’t sting my eyes which I’ve had with a number of other mascaras.

  • Buildable volume
  • Comfortable wand that doesn’t poke the eye
  • No need to wipe of excess
  • Does not run, smudge or flake
  • Lashes feel soft to the touch
  • Does not sting when you rub your eyes

  • Can transfer onto the lid during application. Tip: tilt head backwards during application
  • Not the most amount of lengthening, volume or curl I’ve had from a mascara

Overall, this is a great mascaras you can pick up for under a tenner in terms of ease of application and results. However, I’m not sure I would buy it again as it isn’t as volumising as say the Maybelline Lash Sensational or as lengthening as Max Factor Masterpiece. This is a mascara I’d leave for work days as you get a good amount of volume and separation, no smudging and it’s comfortable to wear all day.

Have you tried this product before? Comment below and let me know!
