NYX Lip Lingerie – Swatches and reviews

DSC02513.JPGAlright, okay, I know I’m super late on this bandwagon but I finally decided to get my little paws on some of the NYX Lip Lingerie liquid lipsticks.

I did a bit of research and chose three colours that I believe would suit my skin tone best, I ended up choosing Exotic (warm orange with brown undertone), Teddy (brown with grey undertone) and Ruffle Trim (nude with brown undertone).

Price: At £6.50 per lipstick and being available at the drug store (Boots) these lipsticks are amazingly well priced. Admittedly I’m a make-up snob so I wasn’t sure how these lipsticks were going to fare.

Application: This lipstick comes with the classic doe-foot applicator. I find it really easy and comfortable to apply and it picks up the perfect amount of product for a full application. The shape of the applicator makes it easy to get clean lines too.

Formula: Oh my gosh guys, this formula feels soooo good on the lips I’m actually amazed. It feels creamy, moussey and non-drying, even better than most of the high end liquid lipsticks I’ve tried. The colour is well pigmented, it may be built up from a light slick of colour to full intensity.

Longevity: This lipstick lasts a full eight hours on the lips even after eating and drinking. It doesn’t settle into lines in the lip and after it has dried the lipstick does not smudge, bleed or transfer. After the eight hour mark there is a bit of drying which can be remedied with some lip balm on top.

Overall verdict: I am in LOVE with this product, especially the colour Exotic which has become a holy grail lipstick for me. Teddy is an amazing 90’s brown shade which can be built up from a my-lips-but-better brown to a deep dark brown and I’m so glad I bought Ruffle Trim as I’ve been on the hunt for a perfect nude and I’ve finally found it! I’m SO happy with these liquid lipsticks and really recommend you run to your nearest NYX counter and pick some of these up!

Nars Audacious Lipstick in Deborah – Review

Hey folks just a quick post here. I apologise in advance because this post may make you want to part with your money. Everything you’ve heard about the Audacious lipsticks from Nars is true.

I’ve been looking for the perfect dark brown lipstick for ages, one that is not too dark and not too red. I’ve also been meaning to try out the Audacious lipsticks from Nars for a while, so when I saw tried “Deborah” by Nars in store it was love at first swatch.

At £24 a bullet these lipstick are not cheap, but to me a brown lipstick is a staple in my lipstick wardrobe so I really thought of this as more of an investment.

The packaging is Nars’ signature sleek, matte, black packaging and the lid magnetises close. So satisfying.

When I first tried this lipstick on I applied it with the gentlest hand and I was AMAZED at the pigmentation. Like seriously AMAZED. I didn’t have to apply any pressure and in one swipe there it was, the colour fully deposited on my lips with full opacity.

The formula is very creamy and hydrating, very similar to the Urban Decay Matte Revolution lipsticks and dare I say maybe even creamier. The finish is satin and lasts a full 8 hours without budging. There is no bleeding of the colour around the lip line and it is so, so comfortable to wear.

Swatches from L-R: MAC Film Noir, Nars Deborah, MAC Diva

I would seriously recommend this lipstick if you’re looking for comfortable, PIGMENTED, long wearing, satin finish lipstick. By far one of the best formulas around.

Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick- 1993 (The MAC Whirl Dupe!)

Hey folks! Long time no speak, sorry about being AWOL, I’ve been rather busy doing coursework, studying and working 😦 However, I’ve taken some time out to talk to you about one of my recent purchases.

I feel like I’ve been through a bit of a change recently. I had a make-up cleanse around a month back where I threw a bunch of products away that I was just holding on to for the sake of it. I looked through my collection and thought about what products work for my skin type and tone. Once I came to this understanding, suddenly I haven’t been so obsessed with buying every new product I see but really thinking about where a product places into my lifestyle.

I also feel like my everyday make-up routine has gotten a lot more relaxed, I’m not sure if this is a result of laziness or just having no time but I tend to gravitate towards very similar colours and products that are “low maintenance” or easy to wear everyday.

Having said that, when I went out with one of my friends recently she was telling me about MAC Whirl and how I MUST buy it. Whirl has been on my wishlist for a while now but I’ve been trying to step away from MAC and try lipsticks from other brands too. Don’t get me wrong I love MAC but I do find their matte finish lipsticks really drying, on my already dry lips.

So off I went and did some research for a Whirl dupe and came across this gorgeous colour from Urban Decay called 1993. It looks like 97% similar to Whirl but a teeny, tiny bit darker. I’d heard really great things about the formula of the matte revolution lipsticks, so I went online and purchased one. Currently there’s a lot of sales going on and I bought mine from House of Fraser for £13.95 over the original price of £15.50 (the same price as a MAC lippy).

1993 is a neutral-cool toned brown lipstick, very much “my lips but better”. I’m usually someone who prefers warm toned colours but this actually looks rather nice on me (even if I do say so myself!). It’s very 90’s, very Kylie Jenner and I absolutely LOVE it. The formula is one of the best matte formulas I’ve ever tried and doesn’t dry out my lips throughout the day. It dries matte but because it has a lot of nourishing oils in the formula it can smudge a little. It lasts around 6-8 hours before a top-up is required.

Comparison swatches, no flash, & flash: From L-R. Verve (MAC), 1993 (Urban Decay), Bond Girl (Charlotte Tilbury)
Me wearing Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in 1993. Pulls a lot more pink in pictures but is definitely very brown in real life.

This lipstick isn’t by any means a drugstore dupe but I think the formula is far superior to MAC Matte finish lipsticks and for a person like me who spends at least 12 hours out of the house each day, I don’t need to be faffing around with my lipstick or walking around with dry, flaky, uncomfortable lips, especially in this weather. Urban Decay is slowly becoming one of my favourite brands and for good reason too. I can’t wait to try out more of their products.

A Week In Lipstick – Autumn / Winter Edition

I’m not sure if it’s the crisp weather, the pumpkin spice everything, oversize knits or baking every weekend but I just find this season so incredible cozy and lovely. The moment I start gravitating towards darker lips signals the change of seasons, so here are my top 7 lipsticks to wear in the Autumn / Winter period, one for each day of the week!

MAC Verve – Satin finish. This lipstick is a brown- plum and extremely wearable for those that aren’t that brave to wear a dark lip. If you want to rock a dark lip to work for example this is the perfect one to choose, I’ve been wearing this to the office and I love it. The formula is also amazing, it glides on really softly and doesn’t dry out your lips. It lasts until lunchtime when it needs a quick top-up.

OCC Lip Tar Black Dahlia -Matte finish. I have a love-hate relationship with this lipstick. Let’s start with the negatives. It is so difficult to apply and bleeds even with lip liner so it takes ages to clean up and perfect your lips. However. Once this is on it stays on, also the colour is this most gorgeous blackened berry red at full opacity or it can be worn as a sheer wash of colour too. If you want to feel extra vampy and have the time to apply it, this is the lipstick to go for.

Revlon Super Lustrous  Really Red – Matte finish. I remember first seeing this lipstick on a girl at uni and when I found out what the name was I went to Boots to buy it the very same day. This classic red lipstick has a slight orange undertone and looks fantastic on all skin tones. It is a matte finish but I don’t find it drying.

MAC Film Noir – Satin finish. If you’re looking for a 90’s Janet Jackson dark brown lipstick then this is the one for you. I love throwing this on with an oversize denim shirt, big hair and hoops, throwback anyone?

MAC Diva – Matte finish. Diva is one of my all time favourite lipsticks, it is a burgundy red lipstick and looks just gorgeous on all skin tones especially if you’re warmer/darker. I find that it can last a really long time on the lips but because it’s a matte finish it is drying. If you’re looking for something darker then Sin by MAC is a really good option.

Charlotte Tilbury Glastonberry- Matte finish. I gave into the hype about this lipstick and I’m not even sorry. Glastonberry is a dark berry lipstick with a cooler undertone. I love wearing this colour out and about on the weekend when I’m feeling a bit more glam. It wears comfortably on the lips but you’ll probably need a liner to pair with it.

Charlotte Tilbury Bond Girl – Not everyday this season is a dark lippy day, so for those every day, out and about days, I whip this beauty out. I cannot stress how pretty this colour is, it’s a warm pink with brown neutral undertones that complements any eye look and make my lips look full and luscious, I find myself gravitating towards this whenever I want to look polished, yet simple.

L-R: Verve, Black Dahlia, Really Red, Film Noir, Diva, Glastonberry, Bond Girl

MLBB – My Lips But Better Tag

I was tagged by the lovely Stash Matters to do the “My Lips But Better” tag. For those who don’t know, as the name suggests, these are lip products that are a similar colour to your natural lip. By wearing such products it can bring out your lip shape, brighten your complexion and make you look more put together, without looking made up. I think the term “My Lips But Better” differs from person to person as we’ve all got different natural lip colours. I opted for a few that suit my colouring in particular.

1) Gerard Cosmetics 1995 – Warm brown with pink undertones, matte. I bought this lipstick just recently and I have to say I am OBSESSED with it. The colour warms up my complexion but I really think this will suit absolutely anyone.

2) MAC Mocha – Peach brown with yellow undertones, satin. Finding nudes for darker skin is especially difficult so when I found Mocha I was hooked. This is a natural peachy brown that is slightly more orange than 1995 and it really makes my lips look plump and full.

3) Bobbi Brown Rose – Medium rose, satin. This lipstick is one of my all time favourites. It is the perfect neutral pink that is lovely to wear during the daytime or if you want to go for that “no make-up, make-up” look.

4) MAC Twig- Pink with brown undertones, satin. Twig is a very popular bridal colour because of its neutral pink colouring. Some may find this colour a little too brown, but personally I love it for a MLBB look.

I’m not sure the pictures really capture the colours that well as they are all quite similar but I hope you can tell the slight differences between the lipsticks.

This is a really fun post to do as I’ve been loving MLBB lipsticks recently. I tag the following people to do this post, I look forward to seeing your picks!

Gerard Cosmetics First Impression

DSC00567 Hey lovelies! So I was actually meant to be on a no-buy because I spent my shopping allowance in the first week after payday BUT BeautyBay recently had a buy one get one half price sale on Gerard Cosmetics and I thought it’d be a great opportunity to give their products a try. Gerard Cosmetics is quite a new cosmetics brand and recently became really popular because of their collaboration with Youtuber Jaclyn Hill.

One of the most raved about products from their line is the lipstick called “1995” from the Jaclyn Hill collection. I’m a bit obsessed with pinky brown lips at the moment so I knew I wanted to try this colour. I’ve also been searching for a peach lipgloss so I chose the Color Your Smile Lighted Lip Gloss in “Salmon”. The products are a little cheaper than MAC priced at £11.50 for a lipstick and £15 for a gloss.

When I received the products the first thing that struck me was the packaging. The lipstick comes in a gorgeous gold bullet which looks classy and expensive. What really impressed me though is the lipgloss, not only does it look awesome but it has a mirror on the outside on the tube and two tiny lights in the top that light up when you open the tube making it easy to apply in dim lighting.

I am absolutely in love with the lipstick 1995, the colour is a really warm pink-brown, sort if like a warmer version of “Twig” by MAC. The formula is matte but comfortable. It lasts around 4 hours on the lips before reapplication is needed. The only thing I don’t like is the strong Camphor smell in the lipstick which can drying some peoples lips. The Salmon lipgloss has the most incredible formula I have tried so far. It is highly pigmented but really moisturinsing. Also NO stickiness! I love wearing this on its own or layered with a peach/brown lipstick.

Overall I’m really happy with my first Gerard Cosmetics purchases and will be looking into buying some more of their products, especially the glosses. Have you tried anything from Gerard Cosmetics before? Comment below and let me know. Jay x

MAC Twig, Verve and Mocha – Swatches & 300 Followers!

Hello peeps! How you doing this Sunday? I’ve currently got a really bad neck pain so I’ve been out of action all day (cue Sopranos box set). I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who is following my blog, this weekend I hit 300 followers! Thanks you, thank you, thank you! I’ve got so much appreciation for you all, this is an awesome community and I love the supportiveness of everyone I’ve met through this channel. I honestly didn’t think I’d get 10 followers let alone 300!

Anyway! I bought three new MAC lipsticks and I wanted to share the swatches with you. The three I purchased are Twig (Soft muted brownish-pink – satin finish), Verve (Muted brownish-plum – satin finish) and Mocha (Peachy yellow-brown – satin finish). I love how the MAC satin finish lipsticks feel on the lips, they glide on smoothly and don’t dry out the lips unlike some of the matte colours.

I mostly wanted to buy colours that I could wear to work so they are very muted and wearable shades for the daytime. Twig is your typical “my-lips-but-better” cool pink that everyone seems to be obsessed with. Verve is a darker plum colour with brown undertones, so again still wearable for the daytime and perhaps my favourite of the three is Mocha. I’d almost given up my search for the perfect “nude” lip for my skin tone but here it is! it is notoriously difficult to find a nude for darker skin that doesn’t wash us out completely, Mocha is dark and peachy enough to complement my warm dark skin tone – I love it!

Here are the swatches from left to right: Twig, Verve, Mocha in natural light and with flash.

My Top 5 Spring / Summer Pink Lipsticks

When the weather transitions into the warmer months I always feel a strong aversion to dark lips, seriously I don’t know what it is but I can’t bring myself to wear a red or burgundy when the sun is out.  I find that pink is such an easy colour to wear during the Spring and Summer, whether you’re going to school, work or out and about for the day and there really is a shade for everyone. These are a pick of my current favourite pink lipsticks.

DSC00173 1) Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Patina. I spoke about this lipstick in a recent post. This lipstick is your very on-trend, Kylie Jenner, mauve-pink matte shade, perfect for the daytime, lasts all day and looks gorgeous on practically everyone I’ve seen.

2) Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Lipstick in Rose Culte. This is the most expensive lipstick that I own and it was worth every penny. This lipstick is a bright, bold fuchsia pink and is definitely not for those who want to hide in the shadows. The formula glides on smoothly and keeps my lips hydrated. The finish is shiny and as it causes a tingling sensation it makes my lips look even bigger and plump.

3) Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Rose. This is one of my all time favourite lipsticks. It is described as a medium rose which is a perfect brown-pink on my skin tone. I wear this if I’m pairing it with heavier eye make-up as it is a muted shade that doesn’t compete with the eyes. The finish isn’t quite matte and it is the best nude colour for my skin tone.

4) Kiko Milano Smart Lipstick in 913 Rosewood. This creamy, pigmented and affordable lipstick is one of my favourites to wear during the daytime. I feel like this colour would look good on all skin tones and in comparison it’s slightly darker than the Bobbi Brown lipstick. I love the  buttery application of this lipstick and the shine finish. It isn’t the longest lasting but it doesn’t cause any dryness which is a big plus.

5) Etude House Color Lips Fit in Perfect Fit Red. Don’t be fooled by the name, this lip tint is not red. It is a very dark pink and is perfect to wear opaque or as a light wash of colour on the lips with a matte finish. It also fades really nicely to leave a “just bitten” effect on your lips.

Swatches of my favourite pink lipsticks in natural light and flash photography

Obviously I own a couple more pink lippies that didn’t make the cut and I’m always on the hunt for some more so comment below with your personal favourites!

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick (Patina) – Review

stila patina

If you saw my previous post on Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Amore you’ll know that I’m a big fan of the liquid lipsticks from Stila due to their long lasting, creamy formulas. I picked this up from Marks and Spencer for £15.

This is a creamy liquid lipstick which dries fully matte and it has at least 6 hours of full coverage wear. It has vitamin E in it to help hydrate the lips. I find application with the doe-foot really easy and the lipstick glides on smoothly, however I find myself wiping off the excess each time. I find the best way to apply this is in thin layers to avoid feathering.

stila patina

After the lipstick has dried it turns out to be that gorgeous pinky-brown Kylie Jenner-esque lip colour that has been so popular recently. I do find that unlike the Amore lipstick, this one is far more drying and actually accentuates the lines in my lips, therefore I apply a lipbalm on top to stop cracking.

stila patina swatch

The longevity of this lipstick is amazing, it does transfer after eating but it still lasts around 9 hours and I didn’t have to top up even once during my work day. It is such an easy colour to wear during the daytime or even in the evening paired with a smokey eye. I don’t like the fact that it is so drying but wearing a lipbalm over it solves that issue.
