A Week In Lipstick – Autumn / Winter Edition

I’m not sure if it’s the crisp weather, the pumpkin spice everything, oversize knits or baking every weekend but I just find this season so incredible cozy and lovely. The moment I start gravitating towards darker lips signals the change of seasons, so here are my top 7 lipsticks to wear in the Autumn / Winter period, one for each day of the week!

MAC Verve – Satin finish. This lipstick is a brown- plum and extremely wearable for those that aren’t that brave to wear a dark lip. If you want to rock a dark lip to work for example this is the perfect one to choose, I’ve been wearing this to the office and I love it. The formula is also amazing, it glides on really softly and doesn’t dry out your lips. It lasts until lunchtime when it needs a quick top-up.

OCC Lip Tar Black Dahlia -Matte finish. I have a love-hate relationship with this lipstick. Let’s start with the negatives. It is so difficult to apply and bleeds even with lip liner so it takes ages to clean up and perfect your lips. However. Once this is on it stays on, also the colour is this most gorgeous blackened berry red at full opacity or it can be worn as a sheer wash of colour too. If you want to feel extra vampy and have the time to apply it, this is the lipstick to go for.

Revlon Super Lustrous  Really Red – Matte finish. I remember first seeing this lipstick on a girl at uni and when I found out what the name was I went to Boots to buy it the very same day. This classic red lipstick has a slight orange undertone and looks fantastic on all skin tones. It is a matte finish but I don’t find it drying.

MAC Film Noir – Satin finish. If you’re looking for a 90’s Janet Jackson dark brown lipstick then this is the one for you. I love throwing this on with an oversize denim shirt, big hair and hoops, throwback anyone?

MAC Diva – Matte finish. Diva is one of my all time favourite lipsticks, it is a burgundy red lipstick and looks just gorgeous on all skin tones especially if you’re warmer/darker. I find that it can last a really long time on the lips but because it’s a matte finish it is drying. If you’re looking for something darker then Sin by MAC is a really good option.

Charlotte Tilbury Glastonberry- Matte finish. I gave into the hype about this lipstick and I’m not even sorry. Glastonberry is a dark berry lipstick with a cooler undertone. I love wearing this colour out and about on the weekend when I’m feeling a bit more glam. It wears comfortably on the lips but you’ll probably need a liner to pair with it.

Charlotte Tilbury Bond Girl – Not everyday this season is a dark lippy day, so for those every day, out and about days, I whip this beauty out. I cannot stress how pretty this colour is, it’s a warm pink with brown neutral undertones that complements any eye look and make my lips look full and luscious, I find myself gravitating towards this whenever I want to look polished, yet simple.

L-R: Verve, Black Dahlia, Really Red, Film Noir, Diva, Glastonberry, Bond Girl

So those are my Autumn/ Winter lipstick picks, what are yours? Comment below and let me know!

  1. Love your choice of lipsticks.. I’m really into the Clarins lipsticks right now … I’ve been using one called tawny rose ( rouge éclat collection ) non-stop for an easy day time look and when I want a more intense look, I reach for ysl rouge pur couture in 53.. Xx

  2. Bond Girl ❤ This is such a creative post, Jay! love it! Please so more of these! Maybe one with blushes or something too? ^^

  3. What a great post! I love how you laid it all out on a weekly agenda. 😀
My favourites are of course the tamer shades: MAC Verve and CT Bond Girl! I see that you like matte finishes. 🙂
I have a mini set of OC Lip Tars that I bought at Sephora like TWO years ago and still unopened! I’m actually kind of scared of it lol. They’re SO bold and pigmented, I will have to test them on a weekend.
Lately I’ve been enjoying my Shiseido Perfect Rouge lipsticks in Harmony and Pink Mesa. Harmony is a brownish red and Pink Mesa is a brownish pink – goes with lots of looks and very easy to wear!

    1. Haha I do love my matte lipsticks! The OCC lip tars are kind of scary to be honest, they take a lot of time to apply but when it dries down it’s got great staying power and fades quite evenly throughout the day. I’ve never tried anything from Shiseido but those both sound like colours I’d be interested in 🙂 Jay xx

      1. Oh right haha yeah definitely try it! I put on Diva first then whirl over the top, it turns into like a berry browny colour. Diva by itself on me is more of a red and it’s too bright for me for everyday haha 😕 if you get to try the combo let me know how it looks! ☺️ X

      2. Omg I swear I replied to this but it’s disappeared 😔 I was just saying how I layer whirl over diva as alone it’s too red and bright on me for everyday!😕 with whirl on top it turns like a purple-ly berry colour! I love it – if you try it let me know how it is on you!! X
